🇬🇧 Born in Aomori, Akimitsu Takagi (1920-1995) was one of the greatest Japanese crime novelists of the 20th century. Mad about tattooing and aided by his medium-format camera, he documented the Tokyo tattoo milieu in the 1950s and 60s.
By shooting the greatest tattoo artists of the time and their clients, M.Takagi built a rare archive of the times. Very few images shedding light on this art form from the Shōwa era (1926-1989) have survived until now.
Left forgotten in the writer's library until their discovery in 2017, by French journalist Pascal Bagot, the photographs he took make him one of the most important observers of 20th century Japanese tattoo history.
Not only do these photographs have a considerable historic value, but they are also of exceptional quality and are interesting from a photographic point of view, revealing the photographer behind the writer.
The book the tattoo writer is a collection of 130 photographs taken by Akimitsu Takagi. They were published for the first time in 2022. A second print was done in Mars 2023.

🇫🇷 Né à Aomori, Akimitsu Takagi (1920-1995) est l'un des plus grands écrivains japonais de roman policier du 20e siècle. Fou de tatouage, il documente à l'aide de son appareil photographique moyen-format la milieu du tatouage à Tokyo dans les années 1950 et 1960.
En photographiant les plus grands tatoueurs de l'époque et leurs clients, M.Takagi a constitué une archive rare de son époque. En effet, peu d'images de l'ère Shōwa (1926- 1989) levant le voile sur cet art clandestin comme celles-ci sont parvenues jusqu'à nous.
Oubliées dans la bibliothèque de l'écrivain jusqu'à leur découverte en 2017, par le journaliste français Pascal Bagot, ces photographies consacrent M.Takagi comme l'un des plus importants témoins de l'histoire du tatouage au Japon du 20e siècle.
Non seulement ces documents ont une valeur historique considérable, mais en plus ils sont d'une qualité exceptionnelle et présentent un intérêt du point de vue photographique : ils révèlent le photographe derrière l'écrivain.
Le livre the tattoo writer regroupe 130 photographies prises par Akimitsu Takagi. Elles sont publiées pour la première fois en 2022. Le livre est réimprimé en 2023.
